Varsity Soccer Wins First-Ever CHSAA 'AA' Soccer Title
On Sunday, November 5, the Varsity Soccer team made history by winning its first-ever CHSAA 'AA' Title in a win over Fordham Preparatory.
The win, which took place at St. John's University, comes less than two weeks after the team earned its first Archdiocesan championship since 2002 in a championship match on October 25 against the same Fordham Prep team.
With the win, the team improved to 17-5-3 on the season. A first half goal from Colin Hall '19 and 2nd half finishes by Captains Eric Schemitsch '18 and Jack Baldwin '18 propelled the team to a 3-1 victory. A great team defensive effort kept Fordham Prep off the scoreboard for almost 75 minutes and Andrew Ceonzo '18 was spectacular in goal with several key saves.
The team now heads to the semifinals of the New York Catholic State tournament where they will take on St. Francis Prep on Friday, November 10. For a full recap of the championship game, visit the MSG Varsity website.
