Seniors Earn National Merit Recognition
On Wednesday, September 14, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced this year's semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Twenty-five Regians advanced amongst over 16,000 students across the country, recognized for their academic excellence and pursuit of learning.
Semifinalists were named after an initial screening of scores from the 2021 PSAT/NMSQT exam, taken during students' Junior year. The 16,000 honorees represent less than one percent of high school seniors in the United States, and will now move on to compete for 7,250 National Merit Scholarships to help fund their continued education. These awards are estimated to be worth nearly $28 million.
In addition, 24 Regians were given the National Hispanic Recognition Award, and 5 were given the National African American Recognition Award. Both awards are bestowed nationally amongst juniors and seniors, and were developed by The College Board to better connect students from traditionally underrepresented communities with colleges/universities, broadening pathways to higher education. 61 students were recognized as National Merit Commended Students.
National Merit Scholarship winners will be named in late spring. Congratulations to all our students for these tremendous honors!
