Regis Holds 106th Graduation Exercises
Clad in their white dinner jackets, the members of the Class of 2023 gathered on Saturday at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola to receive their Regis diplomas during the school's 106th Graduation Exercises. The seniors were joined by family, friends, faculty, staff, and alumni as the Regis community celebrated their achievements and wished them well on the journeys that await them.
Saturday's ceremony commenced with an invocation from Rev. James P. Ferus, SJ, followed by remarks by Amaru Tupacyupanqui ’23, who was nominated by his peers to speak before his classmates. “God works in mysterious ways, and while the skies may be dark and the roadways unsure, let us be ready to do good, for we are sons of Regis," said Tupacyupanqui. His full remarks can be read here.
Before the Class of 2023 officially became a part of the Regis alumni community and received their diplomas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr. Anthony DiNovi ’80 addressed the young men on finding fullness in their adult lives. “You will hear a lot in the coming years about happiness," said DiNovi. “Many spend a lifetime looking for happiness in all the wrong places. But happiness is not an end, or a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, that needs to be discovered. Rather, happiness is a choice you make for yourself. It is how you choose to live your life every day."
DiNovi and Regis President Rev. Christopher J. Devron, SJ, then presented seniors with their diplomas. Said Fr. Devron: “My prayer for you is that others will look at you, especially at your actions, and say about you: Deo et Patriae Pietas Christiana Erexit. In other words: Christian devotion built him — built you! — for God and country."
Interim Principal Dr. Ralph V. Nofi concluded the day's ceremonies with a thoughtful benediction. “As you leave us today, my prayer is that you will look back on your time at Regis and recognize the presence of these 'gifts of life' in your experience here on 84th Street," said Dr. Nofi.
Congratulations to the 106th graduating class of Regis High School!
