Faculty and Students Spring into Action at Annual Tchoukball Game
Students and faculty gathered in the Regis gym once again this May for the annual student-faculty tchoukball game. The matchup is a perennial favorite at the Parents Auction, and this year was no exception. The event sold for a record amount, funded by the D'Avanzo, Dowicz, Gregg, Kilduff, McGranahan, Mills, and Pazos families. Their sons selected classmates to participate on the student team. The faculty team, led by school Principal Dr. Gary Tocchet, wore “Team Tocchet" red uniforms.
Originally created in Switzerland, tchoukball features teams of six or seven players vying to throw a ball into a bounce-back frame at each end of the court. To score, the ball must hit the frame and bounce outside of a designated area without being caught by the defending team. Physical contact is prohibited, and defenders may not attempt to intercept the attacking team's passes.
While the faculty team usually begins the annual match-up at a bit of a disadvantage (given that the students have had the benefit of practice during Phys Ed class) they started off strong in this year's match, clinging to a 26-24 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Team Tocchet held off a late rally by the students, and secured a 57-55 win. This was only the second time the faculty team has won since the annual competition began in 2011.
Sincere thanks to the families who made the game possible with their generous combined bid at the 2017 Parents Auction. Below are some photographs showcasing the high-flying fun demonstrated by both students and faculty at this year's game.
