On Wednesday, November 14, two members of the class of 2019, Luca Trigiani and Philip Healy, signed letters of commitment to play NCAA Division 1 college baseball. At a signing ceremony, families, coaches, and friends were on hand to congratulate the two players and witness this momentous occasion.
Luca Trigiani will go on to play for Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Luca is a three year varsity starter, who was second on the team last season with 15 RBI and first on the team with 22 runs scored. In a stellar offensive year, he batted his way to a .392 on base percentage, displaying both a great swing and phenomenal poise at the plate (he also led the team with 15 walks). After playing every inning in every game, Luca was named team captain by the coaching staff this fall, and will hope to repeat his success in his senior spring season.
Philip Healy will play at Columbia University in New York next year. Also a three year varsity player, Philip dominated the CHSAA last season, putting up incredible numbers on the mound. In 21 innings pitched, he allowed a minuscule 5 hits and 3 earned runs, amounting to an E.R.A. of 1.00. He also struck out 46 hitters (over 2 an inning). Philip came through for Regis as a hitter, too. He roped 5 doubles and drove in 8 runs over the course of the season.
Congratulations to these student-athletes as they prepare for Division I competition at two great institutions!
